Cyber Explorace 2019 hosted by Cyber Hack and Ethics in conjunction with School@UKM in Faculty of Information Science and Technology.
Cyber Explorace is an activity where participants, who are from primary and secondary schools, are grouped into 5 separate groups and they will have to complete station games as a group. There were a total of 5 station games. And each station games have their respective modules namely, Privacy, Addicted, Oversharing and Scam. These modules are for the participants, so that they are aware of the importance of being safe while using the Internet. I had the privileged to be the AJK Media and the facilitator for one of the five checkpoints.
As an AJK Media, I had to come up with a poster in order to promote this program to school students. Despite having zero experience of creating a poster, I was grateful to have help by a senior who recommended me to use Canva. After creating the first draft of the poster, I sent it in the group's Whatsapp to get feedbacks, since initially I did not obtain any specifications of what was needed in the poster. After a few drafts and templates, the poster was finally done and ready.
A few days prior to the event, the head of the program needed an extra person to be a facilitator for one of the five checkpoints. I volunteered since there were two of us AJK Media so it as alright and no one else was able to do it. Hence, I was the facilitator for the checkpoint 'Password'. Being a facilitator was tricky for me as I am more toward the shy type. However, I learnt that I could execute it well and all I needed was to not think so much about it. I had to give a talk to the groups on why creating a secure password is important. While facilitating one of the groups, I noticed there was a boy who was quiet and did not interact with his groupmates who were all talkative. So, I approached him and asked if he was alright, however he did not respond immediately to me. After a few tries though, I managed to make him voice out and ask questions. He was having difficulty understanding the activity because it was in English and he was not fluent in it, thus I explained to him in Bahasa Melayu and after that he voiced out more.
Through this program, I realised that communication come about in different ways. We can talk to each other or observe one's body language. And communication is important to get work done, as through this program, I had to ask the opinions of the members and advisors if the poster was alright.
